World of Mother and Child Organization (WMCO) is an Afghan women-led, child- and returnee-focused non-governmental and community-based organization (CBO) established in 2012 in Afghanistan. It was founded to support vulnerable women, children, youth, internally displaced persons (IDPs), returnees, refugees, and underserved communities affected by conflict, poverty, displacement, natural disasters, and limited access to essential services.
WMCO works with communities, humanitarian actors, government institutions, health professionals, educators, and development partners to implement sustainable humanitarian and development interventions that improve the quality of life of vulnerable populations across Afghanistan. Founded on the belief that healthier mothers lead to stronger families and brighter futures for children, the organization has worked since its establishment to improve maternal and child well-being through integrated health, nutrition, education, protection, humanitarian response, and community development programs.
WMCO primarily focuses on women, children, adolescents, IDPs, returnees, refugees, female-headed households, and marginalized communities. As a women-led organization, it strongly promotes women’s leadership, gender equality, child rights, social inclusion, safeguarding, and community participation in all its interventions — implementing programs through a community-based, evidence-driven approach that emphasizes local ownership, accountability, resilience-building, and long-term impact.

Governance & structure
How we are governed
WMCO is governed by a Board of Directors composed of experienced professionals in health, education, protection, management, and community development. It is supported by a Consultative Board and a skilled professional team — health specialists, educators, social workers, engineers, trainers, and finance and administration staff — who ensure effective program implementation across Afghanistan.
General Assembly
The highest governing body, setting WMCO’s strategic direction and upholding accountability to members and communities.

Organizational capacity
WMCO has strong institutional and operational capacity to implement humanitarian and development programs across Afghanistan. Since 2012, it has gained experience in maternal and child health, nutrition, education, child protection, livelihoods, WASH, food security, and emergency response. The organization is supported by qualified professionals — health specialists, educators, social workers, protection staff, engineers, trainers, and finance and administration personnel — who ensure quality program implementation, accountability, and effective service delivery.
Through its experienced leadership, community networks, and local partnerships, WMCO has the capacity to deliver integrated, community-based interventions for vulnerable populations — particularly women, children, IDPs, returnees, refugees, and underserved communities.
